Today Brian and I met at 5am and went to the Blue Ridge Mountains. We left my truck at the bottom on White Oak Canyon and then took is car up to skyline drive and parked at the trailhead on the top side. After assembling the bikes we raced down the mountain. Only the beginning wasn't down and some of the middle wasn't down. Brian got a jump on his XC bike (thru a really rocky trail with some ups in it) and had a good lead going into the fire road section. After the fire roads it wasn't long before I caught him. The trail had a lot more steps than I remember. Many had turns that were so tight i couldn't make them. I crashed four times, came to a complete stop 2-3 more and broke my rear brake lever. It was humid and i was sweating my balls off. It was a great time. I ended up beating him by a much larger margin than i thought possible. but it wasn't about winning, it was about going out and having a good time.
